Testing Info and Parent Resources
The measure of a student's growth and capacity cannot be captured in a test score. However, we live in an age of standardized testing. Therefore, it is important to be informed so that we can make the best decisions for our young people.
As many of you know, the state of Illinois switched over to a new assessment system during the 2014-2015 school year. This test is known as the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers). This test will be administered to students in the spring. Click HERE for the PARCC website, which contains information about the test and practice questions.
In addition to the PARCC, students also take a computerized test known as the NWEA/Map test. This is a 2-day test administered in the spring and has both a reading and a math component. Students without IEPs must score higher than the 10th percentile in both reading and math in order to be promoted to 4th grade. Click HERE for a PDF document that contains information regarding the test, including information about the test itself and ways you can help prepare your student.
More Than A Score is an organization of parents, students, teachers, and community members who are concerned about high stakes testing in CPS. Click HERE for more information.
Raise Your Hand is a grassroots parent organization dedicated to helping parents become advocates for their children by providing information on policies that impact them, building networks to share ideas, and creating tools to elicit change. Click HERE for more information.
